Originally, my submissions to "Imagine" magazine came in waves. They reflected periods of concentrated activity in puzzle creation, which continue to this day. Sometimes I am creatively inspired, other times I simply have to wait until other work is finished. But I generally get a lot of puzzle work done at one time, and then don’t do much for a while. For the first few years, I would send the magazine most of my work after such a period, and then we would decide what to print when. Now I typically store up unused puzzles, send the magazine one puzzle at a time.

The next two stamp puzzles were created during the second such group of mass submissions, and were for the magazine's second year. During the summer of 1994, after my graduation from Western Reserve Academy, I worked on a new selection of puzzles. I wanted to enhance my variety of puzzles published in "Imagine", while also bringing back puzzles and ideas that had previously appeared in the magazine. So I went back to the stamp puzzles and created two more.
